Hello There, I was wondering if I could get some opinions on content type workflows.

In 2010 (and in 2013 with the 2010 workflow) it is possible to assign a workflow to a content type. However the new 2013 content types only allow site or list workflows, which is unfortunate.

The current workflow we are trying to implement needs to run some loop/while clauses on one particular content type and out of the box 2010/2013 workflows don't tick all of the boxes.

My question is really which, in your opinions, would be considered best practice?

    • Keep one content type per list and use 2013 workflows as they are.
    • Use a 2010 workflow but with some custom code in VS.
    • Add event receivers to the content type to trigger a 2013 workflow.
    • Something else I haven't thought of.
